A low budget Australian-made horror film has made a killing at the box office.
Despite being up against blockbuster hits Barbie and in the US box office last weekend, Talk To Me grossed over a whopping US$10 million (AUD$15 million).
The highly-anticipated horror movie was directed by brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, who have a channel called RackaRacka.
After its screening at the Adelaide Film Festival in October 2022, several production companies sparked a bidding war for the flick.
The bidding war was won by A24, who reportedly bought the movie for a high seven-figure deal.

Directors Danny and Michael, who also wrote the script, said it was ‘ a dream come true’.
The film follows Adelaide teens Mia (Sophie Wilde) her best friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen) and her younger brother Riley (Joe Bird), who attend a party that involves conjuring dead spirits and letting them possess their bodies by using a severed, embalmed hand.
The kids use the phrase ‘Talk to me,’ before saying ‘I let you in’ in order to be fully possessed by the spirit.

One top critic on the website wrote: ‘The ensemble never steps out of character, no matter how improbable the situation. While Wilde and Otto are the standouts, best supporting actor must go to the embalmed hand.’
While another said: ‘Talk to Me is a lot of unsettling fun. The Philippous show tremendous promise, and Wilde has the entrancing screen presence to become a major star sooner rather than later.’
And a third wrote: ‘Though it leans on familiar genre tropes and bioskopkeren stylistic conventions, a devastating script and charismatic cast (spearheaded by Sophie Wilde) make Talk To Me a terrifying and pervasively heartbreaking tale of grief.’
